Once the busy Christmas shopping season comes to an end, shops begin to lower their prices and clear out their merchandise to make room for the upcoming season’s goods. January is a great time of year to take advantage of sales, especially in the UK’s premier shopping destination of London.

Some of the most popular shops in London have become synonymous with January sales. The first example is Harrods. January at Harrods is a great time to purchase a new dress or a good jacket and trousers set. January is your chance to splurge on those shoes you’ve had your eye on, and Harrods offers a wide selection of shoes and boots to suit any taste. The high quality of clothing and outerwear makes any sale at Harrods a great deal.

Consider shopping for your New Year’s party dress during this sales period, as most ‘January sales’ actually begin on Boxing Day, December 26. Selfridges is a great place to start your search, as this shop has a range of party dresses and other accessories. With a great line of designer dresses and other clothing, a sale at Selfridges is a great opportunity to purchase that perfect dress.

January is a great time to buy some key investment pieces for your wardrobe that can take you through the year. Visit Liberty for a wide selection of high quality investment pieces, including outerwear, blazers and tops. Liberty’s coats and jackets are designed to last through the elements of London’s winters, and during January’s sales, so you are likely to find a coat that suits your taste. As the weather tends to cool down in January, it’s the perfect time to shop for a great looking coat that will help you finish off the winter in comfort and style.

As London is one of the busiest and most popular shopping destinations in the UK, many shoppers from other cities make a trip to London to take advantage of the great sales found in shops in January. If you are planning a visit to London, be sure to book your travel arrangements and accommodation early to avoid disappointment. Hotels in London try their best to accommodate all visitors during this busy sales season, and booking early will ensure you have a great deal at a comfortable hotel.

Whatever you’re looking to buy, there is sure to be a sale in London this January that will suit your shopping needs. From your dream dress or shoes to reliable investment pieces, January is the perfect time to shop in London.

Gap Year Travel Insurance - Get Covered

Filed Under (Life, Business) by sburke on 24-11-2011

Taking a gap year can be a highly enjoyable and rewarding experience for young people as a break from studies or prior to embarking on their new career. Many people choose to take advantage of the free time by visiting parts of the world they haven’t previously seen, and enjoying new and enriching experiences. Making sure you’re properly covered in the event of accidents, illness and other problems - such as cancellations and lost luggage - should be an essential part of gap year planning.

Travelling without insurance won’t save you a significant amount of money, but will put you at greater, unnecessary risk of having to pay expensive fees for medical treatments and other situations. The health insurance component of travel insurance is particularly important, especially if you’re visiting poorer parts of the world where hygiene and healthcare standards may be lower, or, if you have pre-existing medical conditions and will need to receive prescription products while away from home.

You can read the details of travel insurance policies carefully before making your decision, as not all policies are created equal. You may find that an insurance plan that looks ideal on the surface is less suitable once you read the small print. This is particularly the case when it comes to extreme sports or other hazardous activities that put you at greater risk of accidents, such as snowboarding, rock climbing or skydiving, and you will find that these types of activities usually require additional insurance to be taken out in order to receive more comprehensive protection.

The length of your trip will also factor into your decision between travel insurance and international health insurance policies, with some insurance plans being suitable for short breaks only and others needing to be renewed every six months or more frequently. Choosing a specialised gap year insurance plan could be better suited to you if you’re planning on visiting a number of different countries and spending a long time overseas. Such plans provide you with the option of staying on in the country you visit for employment or volunteering projects.

Discussing your travel plans with your insurer can help you find the policy best suited to your gap year and your budget. This process will also inform you of whether your insurance will not be eligible in certain parts of the world, or during certain activities. When you take out travel insurance to cover you during your time away from home, you won’t have to worry about incurring expensive medical bills and other fees and can therefore enjoy your year out.

Quit for good or find a good alternative!

Forget the daily 20 packs of your personal favorite brands when you’re in Europe if you come from asia, its nearly impossible to sustain being a smoker because yes its more expensive to smoke a 10 pack than a good meal here in the UK. I come from an asian country as a student where tobacco may not be an expensive thing to consume which probably explains why the number of smokers back home are such huge in number. Not that i really am, but my housemate who came with me for our higher studies abroad gives me some great insight on the difference between tobacco consumption back home and in the UK. Yes they have Herbal vaporizers in the United States (tried and tested) but for UK -not only that tobacco consumption is probably one sick of a kind, where a standard 20 pack costs you more than 6.65GBP for the same price you’d get 10 standard 20 packs in my country but even the smokes here are the lowest quality. If you want to quit you will be doing yourself a big favor because not only are you saving loads of money while not wasting them on the poor quality tobacco here, you will also be doing your health a big favor. There are also so many complications when it comes to smoking, specially the part about having to smoke outside the building wherever you are in the UK, the quality of tobacco various for even the same brands (Yes it happens alot here), where a pack bought from a convenient store at times would taste different from that of one purchased from a nearby TESCO,ASDA, i wonder why.Though i’ve never tried one, i think it would be a good idea to rather start consuming tobacco free cigarettes or nicotine free cigarettes , the only reason would be that while they last longer at a reasonable price, at the end of the day they are not even doing you any harm because they guarantee a healthy experience with no disturbance to your health, thus you can be a smoker with safe lungs. This also gets you on the time saving side where you see loads of people making there own cigarettes with Rizla papers and raw tobacco and seperate filters, a cheap but a pathetic experience and how long can one carry on doing it?.p.s: i still do not support smoking, its better to quit!

Let’s give our Fashion the bone-breaking look!

Few days back while i logged onto my WLM, the MSN Today showed up a video saying “Top Fashion Mistakes by Men” and though i am not much into fashion as such ( i have a style of my own;) ) i still just clicked to check out the video. The horribly shot video in London however was very shot and precise but well it did shared some little information that i think most of the youth and fashion conscious people from age group of 18 - 35+  would definitely care for. I can’t seem to find the link of the video anymore but here are a few things the guy mentioned:

  • Do not wear patterned formal shirts
  • Do not wear casual shirts with brand logos
  • Do not wear shirt that shows most part of the chests
  • Do not wear just every-type of shirt with a blue denim jeans!

Though it sounds simple and nothing new, but we see in our daily life many people including me would be doing mistakes like that very often. Anyhow, my i can’t seem to get my hands off any good gear that i’d come across weather they be t-shirts or caps , shorts etc. There are hardly a few that would blow your mind off. Locally i prefer Outfitters more cos that’s the best and funky available, plus its got an outlet in the place i study, but when i have to order online there are hardly a few stores that i could rely on cos very few match the taste i’d prefer wearing. Bone Breakerz is probably one store that will blow your mind off with the gear they provide, the name however does sounds odd though;) but than tha gear is pretty much related to their tag-line that says “Extreme  Gear for the Extreme People” . Their catalogue is amazing and i personally love their designs in Shirts and their Accessories, its truly stuff one would love to have on them!

Skill pays~

I was wondering the job market these days is in the phase of a complete chaos, no one with proper education are getting good jobs except few lucky birds are dominating the entire market, in that scenario where does the future lies of people like me who fear will obtain their degrees but would not be able to quite grab the market’s offerings in the form of good jobs. I hope i do so but their has to be an alternative on the balance.I remember when i was young, my parents would always say skill always pays, when i was wondering this thought came to my mind instantly, i know people with good education in the business of tailoring, catalog printing, hair dressing , etc. Though for the Developed countries they might be well respected fields of business but in our country people like that are praised only when they touch the heights of glory in their niche else they are called barbers and tailors for the heck of it. I just think, if that mentality changes which i guarantee everyone it will, the skilled lot will never be jobless or in the bad condition. My Father is right, Skill pays, even in the next thousand years it will.

They aren’t here yet! The Summers!

Filed Under (Life) by admin on 05-05-2008

But they sure have started giving us the feeling that they sooner will, like few weeks back i remember we had full sleeves just to make sure we don’t die of the cold air that blows around the campus and now what the tee’s are all around to be seen and at night i mostly take off my shirt just to make sure i don’t die of the warmth the temperature is giving me, but hey wait, this isn’t even the start yet, they haven’t yet arrived, The Summers!

Ok the shirt taking off thing was kinda exaggeration though but well i did it, just cos i feel too warm while the 2 fans over my head spin to there maximum, unfortunately in the dorms one is not allowed to install a climate control unit cos than who in god’s name will cover up the already loaded power and the cost but well well, when we speak of how bad the summer is, it has its good sides as well. Mangoes am sure are one of them and so are the Milk Shakes and the 3 month off days from campus and visits to Nathia gali and Doonga Gali Water Tanks, using internet at the elevation of 7000 metres above the sea level in an area where there is no telephone line even and than having the chill out as an internee in some multi national company but let me get back to reality its just my imagination at the moment. I hope i have my summer the way i want, but i really don’t want it to bother me much cos however warm or hot the Summers are, I love them!
