Gap Year Travel Insurance - Get Covered

Filed Under (Life, Business) by sburke on 24-11-2011

Taking a gap year can be a highly enjoyable and rewarding experience for young people as a break from studies or prior to embarking on their new career. Many people choose to take advantage of the free time by visiting parts of the world they haven’t previously seen, and enjoying new and enriching experiences. Making sure you’re properly covered in the event of accidents, illness and other problems - such as cancellations and lost luggage - should be an essential part of gap year planning.

Travelling without insurance won’t save you a significant amount of money, but will put you at greater, unnecessary risk of having to pay expensive fees for medical treatments and other situations. The health insurance component of travel insurance is particularly important, especially if you’re visiting poorer parts of the world where hygiene and healthcare standards may be lower, or, if you have pre-existing medical conditions and will need to receive prescription products while away from home.

You can read the details of travel insurance policies carefully before making your decision, as not all policies are created equal. You may find that an insurance plan that looks ideal on the surface is less suitable once you read the small print. This is particularly the case when it comes to extreme sports or other hazardous activities that put you at greater risk of accidents, such as snowboarding, rock climbing or skydiving, and you will find that these types of activities usually require additional insurance to be taken out in order to receive more comprehensive protection.

The length of your trip will also factor into your decision between travel insurance and international health insurance policies, with some insurance plans being suitable for short breaks only and others needing to be renewed every six months or more frequently. Choosing a specialised gap year insurance plan could be better suited to you if you’re planning on visiting a number of different countries and spending a long time overseas. Such plans provide you with the option of staying on in the country you visit for employment or volunteering projects.

Discussing your travel plans with your insurer can help you find the policy best suited to your gap year and your budget. This process will also inform you of whether your insurance will not be eligible in certain parts of the world, or during certain activities. When you take out travel insurance to cover you during your time away from home, you won’t have to worry about incurring expensive medical bills and other fees and can therefore enjoy your year out.

Constructing the Olympics

Filed Under (Business Resources, Services) by sburke on 24-11-2011

The 2012 summer Olympics is one of the most anticipated events of 2012, and as London prepares to open its doors to over a million visitors and upwards of 17,000 athletes, tourism isn’t the only industry that is booming. In order to ensure the city is fit for the increased traffic and can provide world-class venues for the wide spectrum of sporting events, the construction industry has shifted into overdrive and is transforming London through numeroust projects, large and small.

After the opening ceremony kicks off, the athletes will be front-and-centre as fans from all over the world cheer them on to victory, both in the stadium and from their home countries. Before this can happen though, skilled tradesmen from across all sectors are the unsung heroes, working around the clock to get London y ready with a number of ambitious and challenging construction projects.

Construction was hit hard by the economic recession. Market recovery was slow and new building and refurbishment projects nearly ground to a halt, putting thousands of tradesmen out of work while the market struggled to bounce back from financial crisis. Happily, as the market now improves, housing and other development projects are starting to crop up and workers are getting back on the job to do what they do best.

Because the Olympics are such a massive undertaking, new building and development projects in the city of London have helped to rejuvenate the UK construction industry. As a result of preparation for the 2012 games, skilled tradesmen from all over Great Britain have had an opportunity to get involved in everything from construction and expansion of Underground stations to building the Olympic Stadium, the site of the opening ceremony next year, along with a number of other important events.

Stadiums aren’t the only point of development for the 2012 games. The impressive Olympic Park will feature lush green spaces by the water, along with sporting venues, bars, restaurants and spaces for other events over the course of the Olympics for visitors and athletes to enjoy during the games.

Outside the park, a large new housing development call Athletes’ Village also helped to jump-start the UK construction industry. Athletes’ Village will be the home of nearly 17,000 athletes and officials over the course of the games, and then once the Olympics are over, it will be used as new housing in East London. The beautiful development just outside Olympic Park will provide athletes with comfortable accommodation, along with a picturesque courtyard to meet with family, friends and other athletes.

As the Olympics approach, an increasing number of construction jobs will become available as the finishing touches come together to make sure that London sparkles and the 2012 Olympics are the most memorable games yet. As demand increases, skilled tradesmen are rising to the challenge and providing beautiful venues and upgrades all over the city to help make athletes and spectators feel at home.

Experience the New Year in Venice

Filed Under (Destinations) by sburke on 22-11-2011

Often referred to as one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Venice is a truly unique landscape, filled with winding canals, Gothic architecture and historic artwork. Situated in Northern Italy, Venice is the ideal location for those seeking a short New Year getaway. The city hosts a range of activities to celebrate the holiday and offers a truly scenic setting for your New Year’s Eve festivities.

Prior to the night of New Year’s Eve, visitors to Venice can enjoy a gondola ride along the city’s famous canals. Venice is often thought to be one of the world’s most romantic cities and couples can snuggle up while the boat guides them along the narrow waterways. Other daytime activities could include: visiting the city’s famous art galleries and museums, shopping at high-end boutiques along the Mercerie or even taking an elevator ride up the St. Mark’s bell tower.

For fans of authentic Italian cuisine, dining in Venice is a truly unforgettable experience. Before the night’s festivities, visitors to the city can enjoy an Italian feast at one of Venice’s many top-quality restaurants. Certain restaurants serve a feast from 9 pm until midnight on New Year’s Eve, so you can ring in the New Year with a traditional leisurely Italian meal experience (complete with several different courses and glass after glass of Italian wine). That being said, demand at the restaurants is sure to be high, so make sure to book in advance.

To experience a bit of Venetian culture, you can attend the annual New Year’s Concert, held at the La Fenice Theatre, one of Europe’s most famous opera venues. Once the afternoon performance is over, the venue hosts a large party, which includes dinner and drinks.

For those seeking a more boisterous New Year’s Eve, a giant celebration is hosted in the city’s St. Mark’s Square. Tourists and locals alike enjoy music and fireworks while they eagerly wait for the clock to strike midnight. After the New Year countdown, the crowd partakes in a giant “group kiss” in the spirit of brotherhood and goodwill.

On New Year’s Day, the braver tourists can join locals for a New Year’s swim at Lido Beach or simply relax in their hotel rooms and recuperate from the previous night’s events. The city is also known for its cinemas, and seeing a film there can make for a relaxing post-New Year’s Eve activity.

All in all, there are plenty of ways to spend a holiday in Venice around the New Year period. When you look into flights and hotels for your visit, it’s best to book as soon as possible, to avoid rising costs. It is also important to note that there are two airports in Venice, the Venice Marco Polo airport and the Venice, Treviso airport.

Quit for good or find a good alternative!

Filed Under (Life, Miscellaneous) by admin on 04-01-2011

Forget the daily 20 packs of your personal favorite brands when you’re in Europe if you come from asia, its nearly impossible to sustain being a smoker because yes its more expensive to smoke a 10 pack than a good meal here in the UK. I come from an asian country as a student where tobacco may not be an expensive thing to consume which probably explains why the number of smokers back home are such huge in number. Not that i really am, but my housemate who came with me for our higher studies abroad gives me some great insight on the difference between tobacco consumption back home and in the UK. Yes they have Herbal vaporizers in the United States (tried and tested) but for UK -not only that tobacco consumption is probably one sick of a kind, where a standard 20 pack costs you more than 6.65GBP for the same price you’d get 10 standard 20 packs in my country but even the smokes here are the lowest quality. If you want to quit you will be doing yourself a big favor because not only are you saving loads of money while not wasting them on the poor quality tobacco here, you will also be doing your health a big favor. There are also so many complications when it comes to smoking, specially the part about having to smoke outside the building wherever you are in the UK, the quality of tobacco various for even the same brands (Yes it happens alot here), where a pack bought from a convenient store at times would taste different from that of one purchased from a nearby TESCO,ASDA, i wonder why.Though i’ve never tried one, i think it would be a good idea to rather start consuming tobacco free cigarettes or nicotine free cigarettes , the only reason would be that while they last longer at a reasonable price, at the end of the day they are not even doing you any harm because they guarantee a healthy experience with no disturbance to your health, thus you can be a smoker with safe lungs. This also gets you on the time saving side where you see loads of people making there own cigarettes with Rizla papers and raw tobacco and seperate filters, a cheap but a pathetic experience and how long can one carry on doing it?.p.s: i still do not support smoking, its better to quit!

Saving nature!

Filed Under (World Issues, Health & Fitness) by admin on 18-09-2010

There are not many people in this world who would actually think of saving this world, the other day while i was watching a tv show “My Name is Earl”  in one of the episodes the guys try’s his best to clean up and be as environment friendly as he can by using all the possible Electricity, pesticides and technology free ways of getting things done, but before he realizes he is trying his best to do all he can, the same time he is pretty helpless because it doesn’t really matters what he does because when people from his street, his country and infact the entire world are trying there best to keep this world a dirty place which will soon end the charm of the Earth!. However if one takes a 5 minute time out each day and try’s to be environment friendly this can happen pretty soon, one of the good step was taken by Cydcor which was the first corporate volunteer group of 2010 for Heal the Bay.Cydcor team of 80 individuals gathered up to clean the debris from Zuma beach and wiped the stuff like plastic bags, wrappers and all the waste stuff that we as humans are responsible for throwing into. In a world like today, doing this gesture of good-will and also donating tons and loads to other charity issues is a pretty good way to get it started, well done Cydcor i’d say because we are really in need of teams and volunteer groups like that to have a safe and healthy Earth.
